About the Author

My name is Gary Edward Rosing, born in Pittsburgh, PA on 1 Nov 1945.  I have a sister, Donna, from my mother Dorothy A Lippert’s first marriage to my father, Kenneth Koppitz.  After a short three years, they divorced and my mother later married Raymond Rosing.  They ended up having five more children.  Thus, growing up, I ended up with both last names, which caused some confusing, yet funny moments at times.  After high school I enlisted in the US Air Force in 1964 and was stationed on a remote island in Alaska for a year, which was one of the most challenging years of my life, however beneficial to my personal growth.

I have two daughters by my first wife and two granddaughters.  I divorced and remarried my second wife, Kathleen, who has been my partner in creating this website.  My other interests over the years have included playing baseball, running, travelling, Photoshop projects, some woodworking, and writing.

My mother’s two brothers, Edward and Leonard, about whom this website is dedicated, were killed in World War II by the time I was born.  Later in life I was very proud to learn that I was actually named after Edward.  My birth name was Edward Gary, but was changed to Gary Edward.  My maternal grandmother was not supposed be able to have any more children but did have two more boys, Norbert and Dale, who were like brothers to me.  Norbert began the initial research into the deaths of his older brothers and was the impetus for me to create this website in their honor.

My wife and I launched the first website in 2011, but after eight years, we found that many updates and improvements were needed if we were going to continue.  We hired experienced web developers this time around and feel that they did a wonderful job recreating the site.  Hopefully, we are able to connect our readers to the passion I have in telling their tragic tales.

A Tribute to My Wife

This website would still be so many pieces of paper, notes, photos and ideas … strewn all over our home on the family room floor and in our guest bedroom … for many, many months … if it were not for the tremendous and much appreciated efforts of my wife, Kathleen.

I may have had the vision and been the architect of the project, but she was the construction site manager with the supportive attitude, the patience, the leadership, the software and web design skills, and the commitment to “make it happen” … in spite of myself.

Completing this project became a personal goal in my life … she made it her goal to support my goal. She spent so many hours on her off-work days, on so many weekends, and on so many late nights … she was up after I went to sleep … and she loves to sleep.

Such love and loyalty … thank you dear!
